In 2020, there are basically two types of knives. First of all, there are fixed blade knives that have blades fixed to their handles. Secondly, there are pocket knives that have folding blades. 

These two types of knives are often compared with each other. Fixed blade knives have immovable blades and are considered more sturdy and powerful. Folding knives have small blades that are movable and can be folded into the handle. 

These knives are easier to carry but lack blade strength. Anyways, fixed blade knives are powerful enough to be used for heavy duty cutting work. Here are a few examples:

A bowie knife is our most powerful fixed blade knife. Remember it was designed as a real combat and fighting knife. 

It was created in 1917 by James Black for a fighter known as Jim Bowie who fought the sandbar fight. It has a very powerful blade for heavy duty cutting.

This is a familiar knife for many as it is used for cutting meat. Butchers love this knife because it has a strong blade. Generally, it features a very thick and long blade. You can easily use it for some heavy duty cutting work because of the strength of this blade. 


3. Skinning Knife

A skinning knife generally has a gut hook blade. It is also a popular knife among hunters. It is an ideal knife for a heavy duty cutting work known as skinning. That means, it is a knife for field dressing an animal such as deer after hunting it. 


4. Military Knife

A military knife is another powerful knife with a very strong blade. It has the sturdiness and an ergonomic handle as well to make it an ideal knife for heavy duty cutting work. Those army personnel on secret missions often carry this knife with them. 


5. Fillet Knife

A fillet knife is another fixed blade knife that possesses a lot of strength. It has a long blade as well that is used for a heavy duty work known as filleting. It can be used for filleting a fish. Fishermen often carry this knife with them!
